Our sour service labs use hydrogen sulfide and other sour gases to replicate the highly aggressive conditions found in the Oil & Gas industry. Element’s specialized corrosion laboratories meet stringent international standards and we can assist with a variety of traditional and advanced sour service corrosion testing methods for metals, including NACE MR0175/ISO 15156.
Sour service testing may be required on your products/materials for environment containing wet H2S. Materials exposed to sour service environments in the Oil & Gas industry may face susceptibility to corrosion and cracking, potentially leading to catastrophic failure.
Element utilizes the long-standing expertise of our industry-leading specialists with comprehensive laboratory facilities to perform a detailed insight into the performance of materials and how they degrade in chemically hostile sour gas environments. This enables us to evaluate, characterize and determine which materials are fit for purpose, which in turn prevents failures and saves time and money for our clients.
Advice and guidance consultancy
Our NACE Engaged Experts can provide advice and guidance on the application and interpretation of NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 to ensure the testing programs comply with your project requirements.
NACE MR0175/ISO 15156
Element offers sour service material qualification testing in accordance with NACE MR0175/ISO 15156 to prevent cracking for applications exposed to H2S in Oil & Gas production environments. We provide tests for carbon steels, low‐alloy steels, stainless steels, and other Corrosion‐Resistant Alloys (CRA’s) for service in equipment used in onshore and offshore applications.
Sour service corrosion research and development
In addition to our standard corrosion test methods, we can assist with a variety of material qualification tests and research and development projects. Our industry-leading programs include recent development work on methods for Stress Oriented Hydrogen Induced Cracking (SOHIC) and Sulfide Stress Cracking (SSC) using an axially loaded full ring test.
